A tricycle driver and two women died after a passenger bus crashed into their tricycle on the national highway in Barangay San Pablo, Sto. Domingo, Ilocos Sur early morning on Thursday, May 23, 2025.

Closed circuit television (CCTV) footage showed that traffic was light at that time. A container van had just passed by when a tricycle stopped on the shoulder lane.

Moments later, the tricycle attempted a u-turn across the road, unaware of an incoming passenger bus from the opposite direction.

The bus slammed into the tricycle, which was carrying two women. The impact crushed the rear side of the tricycle.

Responders rushed the two women to the hospital, but they were declared dead on arrival. The driver also died later while being treated.

Authorities said both parties have already reached a settlement.

“Paalala lang po sa mga motorista natin na tuwing magko-cross sila sa highway, kailangan mag-back-to-basic po tayo. Look at your left and right, kapag clear po ‘yung kalsada natin saka lang po tayo tatawid. Para maiwasan ‘yung ganitong pangyayari, lalo na kapag dis-oras na ng gabi,” PCpt. Rodel Ragasa, officer-in-charge of the Sto. Domingo Police Station, said.
