Zamboanga del Sur is among the areas in Mindanao that experienced the effects of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
At least three communities were affected by flood when heavy rains inundated Barangay Rebokon, Dumalinao, Zamboanga del Sur on Sunday, May 25, 2025.
Floods entered homes and a vocational school, and covered roads in the barangay.
It reportedly flooded easily in the area because debris have blocked a waterway. Floods subsided after a declogging operation.
No one was reported hurt in the flooding.
Several parts of Mindanao have been experiencing heavy rains caused by the ITCZ.
Two days earlier on Friday, May 23, floodwaters also entered houses and commercial establishments in downtown Jolo, Sulu.
According to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), at least 28 families in seven barangays were affected by the flood.
The flood subsided eventually.
Engr. Al-Khalid Jaafar, head of MDRRMO Jolo, the area is a catch basin when it rains because neighboring local government units are situated on higher ground.
“Bale, catch basin talaga yung Jolo, mataas yung elevation ng ibang munisipyo, kaya every umuulan sa kanila, kami yung sasalo sa baha kasi mababa talaga yung area namin,” he said.
