Two linemen of a power utility company in Lapu-Lapu City sustained second degree burns in an incident of electrocution while conducting preventive maintenance.

As of this writing, one of the linemen, aged 26 years old, was already discharged from the hospital.

The other lineman, aged 41 years old, is still at the hospital as of posting time to undergo debridement procedure, or the removal of dead or damaged tissue from the wound to promote fast healing and avoid infection.

The incident happened afternoon on May 23, 2025, while the two were carrying out maintenance work on a post in Barangay Pajô.

Based on an investigation done by Station 3 of the Lapu-Lapu City Police headed by Police Major Felix Cleopas III, the two linemen brought a cluster stick loaded to the boom truck for the preventive maintenance works. However, the main line was not reportedly shut off yet when they performed the task. 

GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak tried to seek a statement from the power utility firm, but is yet to receive a reply, as of posting time.

According to Cleopas, the power utility company has shouldered the medical expenses of the two linemen.

Earlier, the power utility company announced of a power service interruption in areas in Lapu-Lapu City on May 23, 2025 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for the 69KV sub trans hotspot in Barangay Pusok.

Barangay Pajô where the post is located was among the areas affected by the power outage.
