Two were killed when two suspects attacked motorists on Governor Alverez Street early evening on May 26, 2025 in Camino Nuevo, Zamboanga City.
Based on footage from Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) camera, the suspects, both wearing black jackets, appeared to have been waiting for their target to pass by.
When the target, a 41-year-old man, did so on board a motorcycle, the suspects opened fire.
The target, a resident of Zamboanga City, did not make it to the hospital alive. His 18-year-old companion survived.
As the suspects continued to fire their guns while running away, they hit another motorist, a 34-year-old man from Lamitan City, who was just passing by the area. The motorist also died.
The man was driving behind the target’s motorcycle.
According to witnesses, the target and his companion have just left the billiard hall at the Cariño Compound and were heading home when shot.
Police are looking at personal grudge as motive in the shooting.
“Yung nakikita na possible motive dito, based sa witness, ay personal grudge,” said P/Lt. Col. Paul Andrew Cortes, spokesperson of the Zamboanga City Police Office.
“Ongoing pa yung hot pursuit operation natin dito sa POI (person of interest) natin kasi may witness din tayo na nakuha and siya mismo makaka-identify dito sa POI natin na isa sa mga suspek natin,” he said.
