A thief carted away approximately P120,000 from an egg dealer in Pototan town, Province of Iloilo.
According to the egg store owner, Norma Cordero, the amount was placed in a bag which the thief took.
The incident happened morning on May 26, 2025.
Cordero said that she was attending to customers at an old market in Pototan. She put the bag down in one place while attending to buyers.
The thief pretended to be a customer by purchasing eight trays of eggs, Cordero said.
While she was preoccupied with orders from other customers, she recalled that the thief tried to distract her attention from the bag.
“Hindi ko alam na kinuha na niya pala ang bag,” she added.
Aside from a total of P122,000 cash, the bag also contained important documents and identification (ID) cards.
Cordero said that that was the first time the thief, pretending to be a customer, bought eggs from her store.
The identity of the thief has not been determined yet, as no closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras were mounted in the area.
"Mula ng mangyari ang incident, hanggang ngayon nag-follow-up kami. Pero may nakuha na kaming plate number (ng motorsiklo), for verification na lang natin kung sino ang may-ari nito,” said Captain Jersey Besas, chief of Pototan Municipal Police Station.
