Authorities have taken custody of the pieces of evidence collected from a business process outsourcing (BPO) company that served allegedly as front to a scam hub in Cebu City.
By virtue of a search warrant issued by the court, personnel of the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit (RACU) 7, Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), and Department of Information, Communication, and Technology (DICT) scoured the hub evening on May 27, 2025.
Over 40 computer units and laptops were taken into police custody for RACU 7 to examine that would help determine whether these were used in alleged scam operation.
Aside from computers and gadgets, police have also taken under their custody witnesses to the illegal operation.
The testimonies of the said witnesses were part of the support documents used for the application of a search warrant.
Police added that company employees may possibly serve as witnesses to cases against culprits in the investment scam modus.
To recall, the illegal operation of the BPO company was exposed by an international hacker through his social media content. The said exposé went viral.
An immediate police operation took cue from the viral video. However, when they raided the contact center, it was already abandoned by the workers and other occupants.
According to Lt. Col. Maria Theresa Macatangay, deputy city director for operations of the Cebu City Police Office, the authorities already have a list of the company officials and employees.
Macatangay said the information is withheld, as of posting time, while they are working on a case buildup.
