The Office of the Ombudsman has issued a dismissal order against the mayor and vice mayor of Libacao town, Province of Aklan.
The order was issued against Libacao Mayor Charito Navarosa and his son, Vice Mayor Vincent Navarosa, and Municipal Engineer Peter Orbista in relation to a complaint filed by a private company for violation of Republic Act 6713, or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.
In a letter from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Sangguniang Bayan Member Bagto Zapata was directed to assume the mayoral seat since May 26, 2025.
On May 27, 2025, Zapata assumed formally his duties as mayor, and will serve until June 30, 2025.
On May 12, 2025, Charito Navarosa won vice mayor, while Vincent Navarosa won as mayor. However, the DILG 6 has not issued a statement yet on their governance after June 30, 2025.
Aside from dismissal, respondents may face cancellation of eligibility, cancellation of retirement benefits, and perpetual disqualification from holding public office.
GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas tried to seek a comment from Charito Navarosa, but he has not responded to the news team yet.
“After that considering there was an election held, kung sino ang nanalo dyan, if they were proclaimed, they will assume office until there is an order issued by the honorable court,” Atty. Junine Wednesday Java, DILG 6 legal officer, said.
