Zamboanga City has recorded five suspected cases of monkeypox (Mpox), its health office has confirmed.

The five cases were discovered during surveillance as of May 28, 2025.

As of this writing, the office is awaiting for laboratory results to confirm if the cases are, indeed, Mpox.

In response to this development, the city health office has activated contact tracing teams.

City Health Officer Dr. Dulce Miravite urged residents to remain vigilant and assured that the situation remains well-managed.

Quoting Miravite, the city, in a post on the city’s Facebook page, said it is prepared “to act swiftly and effectively should the situation escalate.”

“The CHO Chief reiterated the importance of basic hygiene measures such as frequent handwashing, avoiding direct contact with symptomatic individuals and promptly reporting suspected cases to health authorities. Individuals experiencing symptoms like fever, rashes, swollen lymph nodes or body aches are strongly advised to isolate and consult a medical professional for evaluation. Special caution is advised for children, the elderly and individuals with weakened immune systems,” the post reads.

Meanwhile, a resident of Nabunturan in Davao de Oro is in isolation after getting suspected of contracting Mpox.

The Davao de Oro government also confirmed that it has recorded another Mpox case earlier in Maco but the patient has already recovered. Another suspected case was also recorded.
