Five people died while five others were injured when the dump truck they were riding fell down a ravine in Caraga, Davao Oriental.
Based on police investigation, the truck was transporting gravel and had 10 men on board. The men belonged to the construction company that was working on a road project.
The truck was traveling downhill in Sitio Panlaisan, Barangay Pichon when the vehicle reportedly malfunctioned and plummeted down the 80-meter ravine.
“Papunta sila sa Sitio Bantawan, ‘yung sa may ginagawang kalsada. Tapos nang dumating na sila sa may pa-downhill, doon na nag-lost control ang sinasakyan nila,” said P/Cpl. Rhym Pamaclawan, investigator at the Caraga Municipal Police Station.
Five workers, including an engineer, died on the spot after they were buried under the gravel and pinned down under the truck.
Five others, including the truck driver, were brought to the Caraga Health Center and were transferred later to a hospital in Davao City.
Investigation into the incident is ongoing, as of this writing.
