A 63-year-old man died after he was hit by a motorcycle on the national highway in Barangay Puspus, Bantay, Ilocos Sur around 1:20 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2025.

Based on police investigation, the victim had parked his tricycle along the road to urinate. As he was going back to his vehicle, a motorcycle struck him suddenly.

Closed circuit television (CCTV) footage showed the victim, the motorcycle, and those on board the vehicle roll on the pavement due to the force of the impact.

Authorities said the driver and passenger of the motorcycle were drunk and were not wearing helmets at the time of the accident. Both are recovering in a hospital.

The families involved are expected to meet to discuss the incident.

Police reminded the public to prioritize safety when using the road, especially during late hours.

“Pagsakay sa sasakyan natin, dapat nakasuot tayo ng helmet, kumpleto ang documents, driver’s license, registration, mga gear natin,” PLT. Reynaldo Reynon, Admin Officer of the Bantay Police Station, said.

“Isa pa, pinapaalam naman natin na pinagbabawal ang pag-inom ng alak bago mag-drive. I-assess po ang sarili natin bago hawakan ‘yung manibela para hindi makapandamay ng kung sinu-sino,” he added.
