A couple and their three-year-old daughter were killed after the car they were riding crashed into a prime mover truck on the national highway in Barangay Talus, Malungon, Sarangani.
According to the Malungon Municipal Police Station, the car was traveling to Davao City from General Santos City when the accident happened.
Police said the car initially shifted from the middle asphalt lane to the outer concrete lane. The driver reportedly attempted to return to the inner lane, but it swerved into the opposite lane where it collided with the truck.
“Mayroon diyan bagong asphalt na portion na sa gitna ang asphalt then ang outer lane is yung sementado. Nahulog ang kotse doon sa sementado then ibinalik kaya pumunta sa kabilang lane, yung linya ng 10-wheeler, yung truck, yun na,” Malungon Municipal Police Station Chief, Lt. Col. Geovanni Ladeo, said.
The truck driver was taken into police custody and may face charges.
COTABATO INCIDENT
Meanwhile, several passengers, including children, were injured after a multicab dropside pickup figured in an accident in Barangay Dalapitan, Matalam, Cotabato.
Rescuers administered first aid at the scene before bringing the victims to a hospital nearby for treatment.
The vehicle was driven by a 44-year-old man, a relative of the 10 family members on board – four of whom were minors. They were reportedly on their way to Arakan, Cotabato to attend a wake.
Police said the steering wheel allegedly got locked, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle just a few meters away from their home.
“Paglarga nila, a few meters away sa kanilang bahay, sabi ng driver, nag-lock yung manibela niya then nag-swerve, nabangga niya ang isang puno ng niyog then nahulog doon sa may ricefield,” Matalam Municipal Police Station Investigator, Police Staff Sergeant Joselito Palmaera, said.
The passengers are safe, as of this writing, and are currently under observation.
