Several public utility jeepney (PUJ) drivers in Cagayan de Oro City went on strike to protest the new routes under the Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) during the second day of implementation on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.

Jeepney drivers of the Bonbon, Bayabas, and Kauswagan routes gathered in Barangay Kauswagan to express their disapproval of the new routes.

They said the new routes are disadvantageous.

“Wala gyud mi mahimo ngano kung manulod mi anang dalan nga dili namo rota nga ilang gihatag karon ang mga driver sikad gagmay kaayo ang dalan naa pay ga parking mangasuko na ang mga driver sikad kami nga mga driver ga balik balik unya masakitan mi, labayan mi galikayan namo na,” jeepney driver, Alberto Gairanan, said.

Other drivers affected gathered in Barangay Carmen to express the same sentiment.

Several commuters were stranded after nearly 50 jeepneys did not operate.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-Northern Mindanao (LTFRB-10) deployed buses to accommodate the commuters affected.

“Kanina, pagdating ng dalawang bus, puno kaagad during rush hour… mamayang hapon we will do the same,” LTFRB-10 Director, Abosamen Matuan, said.

The Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) clarified that the implementation of the new rourtes was still a dry run and adjustments will be made in the coming days.

RTA will also meet transport cooperatives and drivers.

“Kung about mga rota, pwede nila isugyot sa buhatan sa RTA kay open man pud ta to any suggestion kay mopatawag ta og balik og meeting sa mga transport groups,” RTA Spokesperson, James Andrade, said.

LTFRB-10 also urged PUJ drivers and operators to process their provisional authority and Certificate of Public Convenience under the new route system to avoid penalties.

“I am still on the belief na wala munang apprehension on the first two weeks yan ang binitawan na salita ni RTA,” Matuan said.
