Cases of persons living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in Western Visayas have reached over 6,000.
Based on data from the Department of Health (DOH) 6, the region logged over 6,000 cases from 1988 to March 2025.
The Province of Iloilo continues to log the most number of HIV cases with over 2,000, followed by Iloilo City with over 1,700 cases.
Over 900 HIV cases were recorded in the Province of Capiz.
Data showed further that persons living with HIV in Western Visayas are mostly males, ages 25 years old to 34 years old.
Unprotected sexual contact has topped the list of reasons for the contraction and spread of the virus.
To recall, GMA Super Radyo Iloilo reported on February 18, 2025 that the Province of Iloilo logged over 2,000 cases of persons living with HIV, the highest among six provinces in the region.
