The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has reported that a Chinese businessman was arrested in Digos City, Davao del Sur for allegedly selling veterinary medicines illegally.

CIDG said the suspect, identified as “Wei,” was allegedly caught selling veterinary medicines and vitamins for animals bearing Chinese labels without permits or licenses from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Seized during the operation were alleged unregistered veterinary products, including vitamins for animals, and other pieces of evidence worth around P3 million.

The suspect is facing charges for alleged violation of the FDA Act (RA 9711), Veterinary Medicine Act (RA 9268), and Livestock and Poultry Feeds Act (RA 1556).

“With the arrest of this foreign national suspect and the confiscation of these unregistered veterinary products, we significantly prevented the potential health risks that these unregulated products may cause to the public and to animals and made him accountable for his alleged violation of law,” CIDG said.

“We remind the consumers to be cautious in purchasing health, beauty, agricultural and veterinary products particularly with foreign labels. Always verify with the FDA and other concerned agencies if products are properly registered or certified. We urge the public to report any illegal activities on your localities and the CIDG will do the rest,” CIDG Officer-in-Charge, Col. Ranie Hachuela, added.
