The vice president of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) in Cagayan de Oro City has been removed from his post following a petition signed by majority of the city’s barangay captains.

The removal of ABC Vice President and Barangay Gusa Chairman Marlo Tabac was finalized during a special meeting on Thursday, June 5, 2025.

The petition, signed by at least 64 barangay captains, came after Tabac is expected to assume the position of ABC president and ex-officio member of the City Council.

This after outgoing ABC president Yan Lam Lim won a seat in the City Council in the May 12, 2025 elections.

“Wala koy mahimo tungod kay pirmado sa mga kapitan. I have to act on it kay tungod lugar walay pagsalig kaniya iya nang katungod,” Lim said.

“Naa bay mag-object, walay nag-object unanimously kung diin gi-vacant gyud ang position as vice president,” Barangay Baikingon Chairman Jao Gumapac added.

Tabac said the petition only cropped up after he was set to take over Lim’s post.

Tabac believed that a powerful political figure may be behind his removal, though he declined to name anyone.

“Their game plan is i-unseat ko so that the vice president nga mapili before June 30 now will assume the office as ABC President on June 30,” Tabac said.

Despite the petition, Tabac said he will continue performing his duties as ABC vice president, arguing that “loss of trust and confidence” is not an official ground for removal under the organization’s internal rules.
