A man died while several passengers were injured in a road crash involving a minibus and an Elf truck on the national highway in Cagayan de Oro City morning on Thursday, June 5, 2025.
The fatality was pinned inside the truck and was already lifeless when rescuers from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) Urban Rescue Team extracted his body.
The truck driver sustained an injury in the feet and was brought to the hospital.
Meanwhile, more than 30 passengers of the minibus, including the driver, sustained minor injuries.
The minibus driver claimed he had already noticed the truck veering into his lane, prompting him to slow down, but he was unable to avoid the collision.
According to the truck driver, he lost control of the vehicle when the brakes allegedly malfunctioned.
“Accordingly, giayo daw ni siya (ang elf) as to road worthiness sa maong elf kung makabiyahe ba o dili ato pa na (conduct) ug investigation,” Traffic Investigator, Police Staff Sergeant Maximo Judaya, said.
The minibus driver was taken into police custody while the investigation continues.
