An incumbent barangay official in Pili, Camarines Sur was gunned down morning on Thursday, June 5, 2025.
The victim, identified as Nerio M. Brazal from Barangay San Juan, was shot multiple times by two unidentified gunmen at around 5:10 a.m. while at his meat shop.
Based on initial investigation by the Camarines Sur Police Provincial Office, the assailants, who were both wearing bonnets and riding a motorcycle, fled immediately after the shooting, heading in an unknown direction.
Brazal sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died on the spot.
Authorities have yet to establish the motive behind the attack. Investigators are currently gathering evidence and reviewing closed circuit television (CCTV) footage from the vicinity to identify and track down the suspects.
In an official statement, Police Regional Office 5, led by PBGEN Andre P. Dizon, extended condolences to Brazal’s family and assured the public that all necessary efforts are being exerted to resolve the case.
"We assure the public that all necessary actions are being taken to resolve this case swiftly and bring the perpetrators to justice. We shall remain firmly committed to maintaining peace and order in the region and to preventing similar acts of violence in the future," the statement read.
The police urged the public to remain vigilant and to come forward with any information that could aid the investigation.
As of this writing, the suspects remain at large.
