Two Taiwanese nationals who operated reportedly an online scam hub were arrested by personnel of the National Bureau of Investigation Central Visayas Regional Office (NBI- CEVRO).

The suspects have 29 Filipino employees.

The suspects were found to have operated a scam hub inside a subdivision in Barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City.

NBI-CEVRO operation was conducted at around 5 p.m. on June 4, 2025.

The NBI operatives were equipped with three warrants to seize, search, and examine computer data issued by the court.

According to Atty. Rennan Augustus Oliva, NBI-CEVRO regional director, said that based on the pieces of evidence gathered, the hub operated a romance scam using a dating application program and used fake accounts on an e-commerce platform.

Charges were filed immediately against the suspects.

Further, it was learned that the group operated for a year already using the said modus.

The accused refused to issue a statement.

They were all detained at the NBI-CEVRO facility.

NBI 7 has coordinated with the Bureau of Immigration for a background check on the Taiwanese nationals on possible derogatory records.
