A live-in couple on board a motorcycle was killed in a road crash in Barangay Talisayan, Zamboanga City.

The couple was reportedly on their way to deliver peanuts and packed condiments to stores when the accident happened.

According to the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO), the motorcycle allegedly counterflowed and was hit by a car.

Because of the impact, the couple was thrown off the motorcycle and died on the spot.

“Yung driver ng motorcycle at saka yung backrider niya, dahil sa impact, yun yung apparently, nag-cause ng instantaneous death nila,” ZCPO Spokesperson, Lt. Col. Paul Andrew Cortes, said.

In a video footage, the car is seen bursting into flames after crashing into a perimeter wall following the collision.

The 17-year-old driver survived but sustained minor injuries. He was brought to the hospital for treatment.

Police recommended the filing of charges against the minor driver for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.

The car driver may also be turned over to the Center for Children in Conflict with the Law.

Authorities are also verifying reports that the car may have been used in a race at the time of the accident.

GMA Regional TV One Mindanao is reaching out to the driver and the family of the couple for a statement, as of this writing.
