With the start of Brigada Eskwela 2025, public schools in Dagupan City are putting priority on ensuring that restrooms and water systems are clean, working, and ready for students.
“Pina-prioritized ng schools especially... part of their MO, most of them, focus is CR,” Engr. Tatum Grace Manzano of the Dagupan City Schools Division Office, said.
At West Central Elementary School 1, there are six buildings in total.
Classrooms in the older Gabaldon building each have their own toilets, but newer buildings only have common restrooms. These shared facilities are well-maintained, according to school officials.
“Doon sa 1 is to 1 CR, ‘yung section adviser ang nagmi-maintain... sa common CR, may ina-assign kami sa mga regular class,” Principal Dr. Renato Santillan said.
While there is no budget allocated this school year for building additional toilets, the Schools Division Office believes this will not be a major problem, thanks to existing maintenance routines.
Aside from toilets, schools are also checking their water systems.
Manzano said schools are also giving attention to water access.
“Isa ito sa binibigyan ng emphasis ng mga school, aside from CR, ‘yung water system [din],” she added.
At West Central, some handwashing areas and faucets are already being repaired as part of ongoing preparations.
Meanwhile, teachers kicked off the day with a Zumba session before continuing with Brigada Eskwela tasks.
The cleanup and repair effort will run until June 13, ahead of the class opening on June 16.
