At least 15 people were rescued after a motorized banca capsized in the waters of Barangay Limao in Samal Island.
Authorities said the 15 individuals are relatives, including eight minors.
Personnel from two resorts nearby were the first to respond after noticing that the boat was sinking.
Based on investigation by the Coast Guard Sub-station Caliclic, the group departed from Peñaplata in Samal Island after attending a family reunion. They were en route to Barangay Ilang, Davao City when they encountered big waves and strong current, causing the boat to capsize.
A medical team responded immediately to attend to the 15 individuals before they were transported to the DavSam Port for their return home.
