The family of a teacher who died in a road accident in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu has cried foul over comments on social media seemingly putting the blame on the victim.

The victim’s mother, Anabel Delos Santos, said netizens should be sensitive enough to know the facts and to not make false accusations.

Several comments online reportedly accused her daughter of not wearing a helmet when the accident happened on ML Quezon Avenue National Highway in Barangay Suba Basbas evening on June 10, 2025.

She said her daughter, Trexia Mae, never travelled without a helmet when she went to work.

“Dili unta sila magpalabi og post nga dili mao. Dapat unta, ila untang sutaon unsa may ensaktong sitwasyon… mo-blame dayon sila’g usa ka tawo then muingon nga akong anak wa nag-helmet… naay mga comment nga wa nag-helmet… sure sila nga wa nag-helmet akong anak? Always naka-use na’g helmet padung sa trabahoan,” an emotional Anabel said.

Trexia Mae died when the motorcycle she was riding with her live-in partner, Richard Berame, collided with a pickup truck.

Footage from closed circuit television camera (CCTV) showed Trexia and her partner getting thrown off the motorcycle. The footage also showed their helmets going in different directions, and a wheel getting detached from the motorcycle due to the impact.

Richard and the driver of another motorcycle sustained injuries.

ADDITIONAL PAIN

The tragic accident left the Delos Santos family in deep sorrow.

While teaching at an ESL school, Trexia was reportedly preparing her documents for the licensure examination for teachers in September 2025.

Anabel described her daughter as industrious and caring.

“Akong mga anak, mga treasure gyud na nako… sakit gyud ang panghitabo,” she said.

And as if her daughter’s death itself is not painful enough, false accusations against Trexia on social media makes it even more painful.

She said netizens should learn how to show respect, especially with the family in mourning.

ACCIDENT

Trexia and Richard were on their way home from Trexia’s school when they figured in the accident.

Richard was the one driving the motorcycle.

Trexia did not reach the hospital alive.

In a separate interview, her co-teacher told GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak that they learned from responders that Trexia sustained a fracture in her right arm and neck.

Witnesses said the victims were traveling at high speed, as well as the motorcycle whose driver was also injured.

Police said earlier they would wait for Trexia's family to decide whether or not to file charges.

Trexia’s father, Hipolito, said they will think about their legal options after they have laid his daughter to rest.
