A woman believed to be pregnant died while her two children riding in pillion were injured after a bus hit the motorcycle they were riding on the national highway in Barangay Kayaga, Pandag, Maguindanao del Sur.

Based on investigation, the mother was on her way to enroll her children at a school in Buluan town when the bus traveling behind them allegedly hit them.

Police said the bus was reportedly avoiding potholes on the road and even honked his horn.

“Itong bus driver, iniwasan niya yung lubak-lubak na cemented road then pag-iwas, nasa unahan niya yung motor, pag busina niya parang nagulat yung driver, yun, nabangga ng bus yung likod ng motor tapos nahulog yung babae, doon sa ulo ng bus kaya pumailalim doon sa tire ng bus doon sa front,” Pandag Municipal Police Station Investigator, Staff Sergeant Rizalde Sumensil, said.

In a video footage, the children, an 11-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl, are seen trying to run toward their unconscious mother but were held back by concerned residents.

The mother and her children were rushed to the hospital. The mother did not survive while her children, who sustained minor injuries, are reportedly in stable condition.

The mother’s remains have been turned over to her family.

Authorities are verifying information that the mother was pregnant.

The bus driver was taken into police custody and may face charges.

Police are also awaiting the family’s decision on whether they wish to proceed with a settlement.
