A minor was caught on CCTV sneaking into a small store in Barangay Papagueyan, Binmaley, Pangasinan, and stealing a wallet containing more than ₱14,000 and $50 in cash.
In the CCTV footage, the boy can be seen entering the store at 2:54 a.m.
He covers his face briefly with his shirt and bends down, trying to avoid being identified. He then opens a drawer but leaves it empty-handed. He also picks up an item but later puts it back.
He leaves the store after about one and a half minutes — but off-camera, he allegedly steals the wallet of the store owner, Jocelyn Casupanan.
“Parang kilala namin ‘yung mukha, pero hindi namin masabi kung kailan namin siya nakita. Baka bumili na siya rito,” Casupanan said.
According to her, the boy entered the premises by climbing over the gate and slipping through a gap between the gate and the roof, a space widened recently when the gate was raised.
Although the store’s goods were untouched, the stolen wallet reportedly held over ₱14,000 and 50 US dollars.
The incident has been reported to the barangay and local police. Barangay officials visited the store for their own investigation.
“Nagtatanong-tanong kami, baka sakaling may nakakakilala. Karamihan sa pinagtanungan namin, hindi raw siya tagarito,” Wilfredo Soriano, Barangay Chairman of Papagueyan, said.
Barangay leaders said they will increase patrols in the area and monitor minors more closely.
“Dodoblehín pa namin na i-monitor. Saka mga menor de edad, sisitahin namin sila,” Soriano added.
