A sudden whirlwind caused panic during a barangay basketball game in Abulug, Cagayan.

The brief but intense incident happened around 7 p.m. in Barangay Bagu, just as residents gathered to watch a local basketball tournament.

A video posted by netizen Heidy Tadena Collado showed people running for safety as the whirlwind passed through the court.

A streetlight even burst, and the strong wind blew away plastic chairs.

The whirlwind lasted only a few seconds, and the game continued shortly after the weather calmed down.

Experts say whirlwinds form when warm, humid air meets cold air. While they can happen anytime, they are more common in the months of May and June.
