The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said 50 to 100 mm of rain may pour over Batanes and Cagayan from Thursday night to Friday evening, due to Tropical Cyclone Auring.

The weather bureau warned that rainfall could be heavier in mountainous and elevated areas. Flooding and landslides are possible, especially in areas that have already experienced recent rains.

PAGASA advised residents and disaster officials in the affected areas to prepare and take all necessary precautions to protect lives and property.

The regional offices of PAGASA may issue more specific updates, including Heavy Rainfall Warnings and Thunderstorm Advisories, if needed.

PAGASA clarified that Weather Advisories are meant to give a broader forecast for the next 24 hours and are issued at the provincial level. They are not meant to guide urgent decisions such as class suspensions

In contrast, Heavy Rainfall Warnings give more accurate information for the next three hours and are issued at the municipal level. These warnings use Doppler radar to track rain in real time and are better for flood response planning.

Unless conditions change, the next advisory will be released at 5 a.m. on Friday.
