Two people died while several others were injured in a road accident involving a van and a pickup multicab on the national highway in Barangay Buko, Kinoguitan, Misamis Oriental.

Based on initial investigation, the van was transporting 13 passengers to Balingoan, Misamis Oriental from iligan City. The pickup multicab, carrying six passengers, was heading to Salay town and was travelling the opposite lane.

Upon reaching the place of incident, the van driver claimed he was caught off guard when the pickup multicab allegedly encroach on his lane, which caused the collision.

Because of the impact, the three passengers of the pickup multicab were thrown off the vehicle while the other three were thrown into box culvert or drainage under construction.

The driver of the pickup multicab was stuck in the driver’s seat. He and one of his passengers were declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Meanwhile, the passengers of the van sustained minor injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The van driver was taken into police custody while the investigation continues.
