Three fishermen, including two minors, who have been adrift at sea for three days were rescued in Misamis Oriental.
The three fishermen, including 14-year-old and 16-year-old boys, reportedly asked permission from their families to go fishing in the waters of Laguindingan town on Monday, June 9, 2025.
However, they failed to return home after 24 hours.
“Sila ra man wala pa ka dunggo ang uban naka uli na. Modunggo na sila kasagaran alas dose sa udto pagka ugma na sila wala,” the father of one of the minors said.
The families of the fishermen sought help from the Municipal Risk Reduction and Management Office-Alubijid (MDRRMO-Alubijid), which immediately coordinated with the Philippine Coast Guard.
“Since gabie naman gyud wala sila na atiman sa Coast Guard pero ila na gi inform ang uban stations,” MDRRMO-Alubijid Head, Maricar Cotapte, said.
Members of the Bantay Dagat also launched a search and rescue operation on June 11, along with other fishermen.
The missing fishermen were eventually found in the waters of Mauswagon, Laguindingan.
According to reports, their motorized boat encountered engine trouble while they were fishing.
The families of the victims expressed gratitude to all those who assisted in the rescue operation.
Authorities advised fishermen to carry communication devices such as cellphones or radios so they can call for help immediately in case of emergency.
“Dapat magdala gyud ta ug communication device like cellphone or radio kay incase deretso ta maka tawag ug tabang,” Cotapte said.
