The opening of classes at a child development center in Kiamba, Sarangani was postponed after a flood hit the area over the weekend.

Flooding struck the school just days after it was cleaned and prepared during Brigada Eskwela. Classrooms were, again, left muddy, forcing school officials to postpone the opening of classes, which was set originally for Monday, June 16, 2025.

General cleaning resumed and, if the weather would allow, classes can begin on Tuesday, June 17.

FLOOD IN OTHER AREAS

Meanwhile, heavy rains also flooded other areas in Maguindanao del Norte and Cotabato.

In Maguindanao del Norte, vehicles struggled as floodwaters submerged portions of the national highway in Barangay Semba, Datu Odin Sinsuat at past 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025.

In Barangay Sinawinga, Libunga, Cotabato, motorists also braved flooded streets after a river nearby reportedly overflowed following heavy rains, according to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).

A resident said the floods were worsened by debris and garbage clogging the waterways.

Personnel from the Libungan Municipal Police Station assisted in managing the traffic and ensuring safety in the affected areas.

State weather bureau PAGASA said the rains were due to the effects of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

Local disaster response teams are currently conducting assessments to determine the full extent of the flooding.
