Three confirmed cases of Mpox have been recorded in Alabel, Sarangani, according to the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

The first case involved a 73-year-old woman who had a travel history from Polomolok, South Cotabato. The woman was diagnosed initially with chickenpox at the municipal hospital.

She returned to Alabel and experienced body pain. She went to the health center for a checkup and was admitted later after showing symptoms of Mpox. Results confirmed that she was positive for the disease.

“Kahit na mukhang chickenpox yan or anything na may mga rashes na kahina-hinala, we will have to do testing and indeed positive nga itong ating case,” Sarangani Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Alvin Alejandro, said.

The second case is a 28-year-old woman who had travelled to General Santos City. After a few days, she developed body rashes and was reported to the PHO.

Upon showing symptoms of Mpox, she was isolated and tested. Results also confirmed a positive case.

The third case involved a 37-year-old woman who had no travel history.

PHO also recorded at least 21 suspected cases of Mpox in the province, most of whom had exposure or travel links to Polomolok. Authorities continue contact tracing and testing.

“As of today we have 19 suspected cases plus dalawa yung kasambahay ng matanda na galing sa Polomolok so we have 21 but 19 suspected cases nakunan na natin ng sample at out of that 19 10 na yung dumating kasama itong tatlong confirmed cases natin,” Alejandro said.

Health authorities urged the public anew to maintain proper hygiene and to avoid skin-to-skin contact with others showing symptoms such as rashes or lesions. While face masks are no longer mandatory, authorities are still advising caution in public areas.

Individuals who developed symptoms must seek medical attention immediately.
