A woman was arrested for allegedly abusing her six-year-old daughter physically, which led to the child’s death in Lamitan City, Basilan.
Initial investigation showed that the child had left their home around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025, with her cousin, to buy vegetables without informing her mother. The suspect who got angry found her daughter near the road and allegedly beat her multiple times with a tree branch.
Police said a witness had claimed that the child was placed inside a sack upon returning home.
When the child became unresponsive, the suspect reportedly rushed her to the hospital, but the child was declared dead on arrival.
The suspect is now detained and may face charges for parricide in relation to RA 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act.
“We urge everyone to remain vigilant and to immediately report any suspected cases of child abuse or domestic violence to the nearest police station,” Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR) Director, Brigadier General Romeo Macapaz, said.
“Together, let us build a safe and nurturing environment for our children—where their rights are upheld and their lives fully protected,” he added.
