The top official of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has filed a request for relief due to health concerns.

DCPO Director, Col. Hansel Marantan, appeared before the City Council for an exit call. He also announced that he had submitted a request for relief with the PNP national headquarters on Friday, June 13, 2025.

The PNP headquarters may issue a decision 15 days after the filing.

Marantan also filed a leave of absence while waiting for the decision.

“I am in pain. I have medical conditions, so I have to address it. I have 52 metals crossing my body. I have total knee replacement. I have a titanium spine. In other words, I am a PWD. I think I have to address my situation,” Marantan said.

During his 11-month tenure, Marantan reported accomplishments, including a 100 percent crime solution efficiency, zero terrorist incidents, and no election-related violence in Davao City.

Aside from law enforcement operations, he also highlighted the successful outreach programs conducted by DCPO, especially in far-flung barangays.

In recognition of his service, the City Council unanimously approved a resolution commending Marantan and the DCPO for their efforts in maintaining peace and order in the city.

“I’m humbled na they will give some commendations and all that. The PNP will be happy about it. My family will be happy. It is such a relief,” Marantan said.

Marantan reportedly recommended three potential successors who may take over his post as acting DCPO chief.
