Heavy rains triggered sudden floods in several areas of Central Luzon on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, leaving roads impassable and residents struggling to get home safely.

In Olongapo City, streets in Barangay Sta. Rita were submerged after just two hours of intense rain. Some areas were no longer passable to small vehicles.

“As per our record from the rain stations, malaki po talaga ang ibinuhos ng ulan kagabi. ‘Yung isang station natin nag-record ng 142 millimeters in just 2 hours. Sa iba naman, nasa 94.5 at 77.5 millimeters,” Irvin Paras, Deputy CDRRM Officer of Olongapo City, said.

In Barangay Barretto, residents faced stronger currents. One woman was seen nearly swept away by the flood as she slipped while trying to cross the road.

Local authorities began clearing flooded areas immediately after the rain stopped.

In Mariveles, Bataan, floodwaters reached knee-deep levels in Barangay Ipag. Several residents were stranded and unable to go to the market due to the flood.

In response, barangay authorities distributed fish to residents affected.

“Handa naman talaga kami sa kahit anong baha. Pero hindi talaga natin mapipigilan kung lalaki ang tubig. Kahit papaano ay namahagi kami ng kaunting pang-ulam, hindi na kasi sila makapamalengke, kaya hinatid na namin,” Barangay Chairman Rodito Luyo said.

In Talavera and Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, heavy rains also poured, reducing visibility and forcing motorists to slow down.

PAGASA continues to issue thunderstorm advisories for Central Luzon and urges residents to stay alert for possible flooding.
