The Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division Office 2 Pangasinan has launched an in-depth investigation into a reported bullying incident involving a Grade 7 student at Mangaldan National High School, which occurred on the first day of classes, June 16.
Learner Rights and Protection Officers visited the school and have made the student undergo counseling.
“Hindi kasi natin maialis na baka may trauma sa bata. Kinausap natin siya at okey naman na daw siya,” Eduardo Castillo, principal of Mangaldan National High School, said.
Meanwhile, the students involved in the bullying have reportedly transferred to another school, a decision made by their parents, not the school administration.
“Kapag ganyan na ang parents na ang nag-request, wala tayong magagawa. Iniisip din siguro nila ‘yung kaligtasan ng kanilang mga anak,” Castillo added.
The school also clarified that the incident did not happen inside the classroom, contrary to earlier statements made by the victim’s mother. School officials said the bullying and physical assault took place outside.
As part of its response, Mangaldan National High School has included mental health orientation in its back-to-school activities to promote awareness and prevent future bullying.
“Mahalaga po ito para maiwasan ang bullying sa school,” Segundo Erestingcol, a teacher at the school, said.
Students also expressed the importance of knowing their rights.
“Dapat po talaga na alam namin ang mga rights po namin,” Rhon Mar Abrigo, a student, said.
