A suspected platoon medic of the New People’s Army (NPA) allegedly involved in the ambush of two soldiers in Surigao del Norte was arrested in Malimono town.

According to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), the suspect identified as alias “Jane” was arrested by virtue of six warrants, including warrants for two counts of attempted murder, murder, arson, and violations of Anti-Terrorism Act (RA 11479) and Philippine Act on Crimes Against International Humanitarian Law, Genocide, and other Crimes Against Humanity (RA 9851).

CIDG said Jane allegedly served as platoon medic of the NPA’s Sub-Regional Sentro de Grabidad. She was also tagged as number one most wanted person in Caraga.

Authorities said the suspect and seven others allegedly ambushed and attacked two Army soldiers in Malimono using high-powered firearms on March 26, 2022.

The suspect and other communist rebels also allegedly burned a dump truck and a payloader after the owner allegedly refused to pay a “revolutionary tax” on April 20, 2022. On the same day, the suspect and 14 others allegedly shot a certain “Ernesto” dead.

“Rest assured that the CIDG is steadfast in its fight against all forms of criminality especially terrorism, and is unrelenting in its manhunt operations and arrest of all wanted persons and fugitives across the country,” CIDG said.
