The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has prepared fitness programs specifically for overweight police officers after PNP chief, General Nicolas Torre III, said that overweight cops who fail to lose weight within a year may be removed from service.

In response, DCPO is now rolling out various fitness initiatives such as weekly or bi-weekly physical activities, including basketball, volleyball, and Zumba sessions.

“Naa tay once a week o twice a week nga pasingot like basketball, volleyball. Naa tay zumba. Hazel Caballero Tuazon, said.

DCPO said it has already identified and listed all overweight officers who will be required to participate in these health and fitness programs.

Under the DILG Act of 1990 (RA 6975), police officers are required to maintain a weight that is within five kilograms of the ideal weight for their height, age, and gender. This directive also follows Section 14 of Republic Act 8551, also known as the PNP Reform and Reorganization Act.

However, officers with legitimate medical conditions may be eligible for complete disability discharge or may be reassigned to administrative duties instead.
