A 43-year-old laborer was hacked to death allegedly by a leader of a cooperative over a request for cash advance in Barangay Cannery Site, Polomolok, South Cotabato.

Based on investigation, the victim went to the house of the suspect, the leader of their cooperative, to request for a cash advance so he could buy rice. However, the victim failed to return home.

“Miadto siya og CA kay ipalit namo og bugas… hangtud nga nagbuntag, wala pa man, pero nagtawag siya mga alas siyete kay pauli na gane siya,” victim’s wife, Judith Abnaway, said.

Police said prior to the incident, the victim and the suspect were reportedly drinking together when the two figured in a heated argument.

The confrontation escalated and the suspect allegedly attacked the victim with a bolo, hacking him repeatedly in the head.

The suspect escaped after the incident.

“Personal grudge. Nagkaroon po ng drinking session, nagkaroon po sila nag di pagkakaunawaan so which resulted sa kanilang away at nataga ng suspek si victim,” Polomolok Municipal Police Station Chief, Lt. Col. Harold Vidal Cornel, said.

The victim’s wife added that work-related jealousy could be the reason behind the hacking.

“Dili man na siya mag maoy…pero akong kwuan gikaselosan ba akung bana sa trabaho ba,” Abnaway said.

The suspect may face murder charges. He is now being pursued, as of this writing.

The victim’s wife also called on the suspect to surrender.

“Mu-surrender na lang siya.  Naa ba siyay kaluoy sa amoa, kabalo ba siya buntis gyud ko manganakay gyud ko,” Abnaway added.
