A police officer died while six others were injured after the car they were riding figured in an accident as they were heading home from a wake in Alabel, Sarangani.
Police said the victims, who were all assigned to the Regional Headquarters Support Unit of Police Regional Office12, came from a colleague’s wake when the accident happened.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident.
“Siguro na-miscalculate nila tong tulay diha parte sa Maharlika Bridge. Padayon ang among investigation aron ma found out kung unsa gyud hinungdan nganong nadisgrasya sila, either human error ba or mechanical error ba sa sakyanan nila,” Alabel Municipal Police Station Chief, Lt. Col. Reynaldo Delantein, said.
The front portion of the vehicle was damaged heavily after reportedly crashing into the center island of the Maharlika Bridge.
A police executive master sergeant seated in the back sustained severe injuries and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. He was a resident of Tacurong City.
Six other police officers were also injured but have since been discharged from the hospital.
