Two riders were killed while another was injured in separate road crashes involving motorcycles across Luzon over the weekend and early morning on Monday, June 23, 2025.
In Dagupan City, a 25-year-old man died after his motorcycle collided with a utility van along De Venecia Highway Extension in Barangay Lucao past 1 a.m. on June 23.
The victim, identified as John Paul Valenzuela from San Fabian, was heading straight when the van made a left turn toward a taxi terminal.
“Dahan-dahan ako. Bigla siyang sumalpok sa gilid ko,” Joshua Tabayoyong Jr., the utility van driver, said.
Due to the strong impact, Valenzuela suffered severe head and body injuries. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
“Masakit para po sa amin. Kasi biglaan po talaga,” Jose Ricardo Valenzuela, his father, said.
According to Dagupan police, the victim’s family will no longer file charges after the van driver promised to help cover funeral expenses.
In San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, a 28-year-old motorcycle rider also died after being hit by a closed van in Barangay Sta. Cecilia on June 21.
The van’s driver and passenger sustained minor injuries.
Police said the van lost its brakes, causing the driver to lose control of the steering wheel.
In another incident in Cauayan City, Isabela, a motorcycle rider was injured after crashing with an L300 van along the national highway.
Both vehicles were reportedly speeding. Rescuers brought the victim to the hospital for treatment.
“Hindi natin alam kung kailan mangyayari ang aksidente. Mag-iingat na lang po. Ibayong pag-iingat ang ating gawin. At alertness po,” PCpt. Shayne Daciego of Dagupan Police, said.
