Residents of Barangay Magalalag West in Enrile, Cagayan were startled after a venomous king cobra attacked and killed their pet dog and puppies.

Personnel from the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO)–Solana and the local environment office (MENRO) responded quickly and found the Luzon king cobra, or Ophiophagus salvatana, hiding inside the house along with 50 eggs.

The team, led by Val Casauay and Roldan Fieror from CENRO’s Conservation and Development Section, rescued the snake safely and turned it over to the RBB Nature Park and Wildlife Center in Tuguegarao City for proper care and handling.

The Luzon king cobra is an endemic and protected species under the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act.

Authorities reminded the public to report any wildlife sightings, especially dangerous animals like the king cobra, to avoid harm and ensure proper rescue.
