A 20-year-old woman in Talisay City, Negros Occidental has been confirmed to be the first Mpox case in the province.

The result of her laboratory test showed that she is positive of Mpox.

It was learned that the woman has a history of domestic travel.

“Within (the) Philippines lang. Mga second week of June [2025] nagpa-consult siya dahil nakitang may rashes siya. So, in-advise siyang magpakuha, test for Mpox,” Dr. Girlie Pinongan, officer in charge of the Provincial Health Office, said.

According to Dr. Joy Gladys Guanzon, officer in charge of the Talisay City Health Office, the patient developed fever two days after she arrived from her travel.

“The patient when she arrived here last May 21 [2025], she went back to another place. Then two days after, she developed fever. And after three days the onset of rash, myalgia, and headache,” Guanzon said.

The Talisay City Health Office has already facilitated tracing on the persons she had contact with at home. She is placed under home isolation, as of this writing, and is monitored by the Talisay City Health Office.

Meanwhile, the patient in Pontevedra town who is the first confirmed Mpox case in the Province of Capiz has already recovered.

According to the Pontevedra Municipal Health Office, persons who had close contact with the patient have gone through assessment and observation but were not found to be exhibiting symptoms.

Results of the laboratory test done on the remaining five suspected cases are yet to be released, as of posting time. 

Capiz Provincial Health Office has vowed to monitor tightly and intensify surveillance operations against Mpox.

The public is again urged to stay calm amid reports of confirmed Mpox cases.
