A 49-year-old fisherman was found dead floating at sea at a coastal area in Barangay Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City morning on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

The fisherman’s wife told authorities that the fisherman had asked permission to go out to fish at dawn. He was found dead hours later.

“Kadlawon daw nananghid kini sa iyang asawa nga managat o mangisda apan mao to’y nahitabo nga nakaplagan na lang siya sa sayong buntag nga wala nay kinabuhi,” Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) Assistant Spokesperson, Capt. Emilita Simon, said.

Authorities said no sign of foul play was found on the victim’s body. However, they urged the family to have the body autopsied to determine the exact cause of death.

Police added that the fisherman’s family also revealed that he had a pre-existing medical condition, and his wife said he was suffering from epilepsy.

“Subay usab sa iyang asawa nga naa kini siya’y sakit ug nag-suffer kini siya sa sakit nga epilepsy,” Simon added.

Meanwhile, authorities are still searching for a 13-year-old old girl who went missing in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte.

The girl reportedly fell into a creek while doing laundry. Her companion, a 21-year-old woman, attempted to rescue her but failed as the girl was swept underwater by the current.

The girl was believed to have drowned, but her body has yet to be found, as of this writing.
