A case for violation of Republic Act 10631 or the Animal Welfare Act was filed against a security guard in Iloilo City who shot a dog dead.

The security guard of Central Philippine University (CPU) owned up to shooting a stray dog inside the campus on May 29, 2025.

According to Captain Mary Jane Panes, chief of the Iloilo City Police Station 3, the case was filed at the Iloilo City Prosecutors Office.

After the video on animal cruelty circulated online, the security guard told the police that he shot the dog dead for fear it is infected with the rabies virus.

The management of CPU has dismissed the security guard after conducting its own investigation.
