After four nights and three days of intense search and retrieval efforts, authorities and volunteer rescuers recovered the bodies of three miners trapped in a tunnel in Barangay Runruno, Quezon, Nueva Vizcaya.

The five miners were reported trapped evening on Monday, June 23, 2025, inside the mining tunnel.

On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, two of them were rescued alive. However, hopes faded for the remaining three, whose bodies were found late evening on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at a depth of 700 to 800 meters inside the passage.

One volunteer rescuer also died during the operation. The rescuer was reportedly with the brother of one of the trapped miners, trying to help bring him out.

Authorities said the trapped miners lost consciousness likely due to lack of oxygen, which made it impossible for them to escape the tunnel.
