A submersible drone was discovered by a barangay captain while fishing off the coast of Barangay Dalupiri in Calayan, Cagayan.

It was turned over to authorities at noon on June 24, 2025, as part of the Cagayan Police Provincial Office’s Project SPIES (Strengthening Port Interdiction to Enhance Security).

The Calayan Municipal Police Station received the equipment with assistance from the MLGOO, Philippine Army, Philippine Coast Guard, and barangay officials.

“Isang kahina-hinalang submersible drone ang matagumpay na naiturn-over sa mga awtoridad dakong alas-dose ng tanghali Hunyo 24, 2025 sa bayan ng Calayan, bilang bahagi ng patuloy na pagpapatupad ng Project SPIES (Strengthening Port Interdiction to Enhance Security) ng Cagayan Police Provincial Office,” the police report reads.

The device had the markings “JAIABOT” and “JAIA ROBOTICS INC. P. +1401-214-9232” and was equipped with an antenna, propeller, and rudder. Authorities said this suggests it may have been operated remotely.

Police said the drone will undergo thorough inspection to determine its origin, purpose, and potential security risks.
