An incident of alleged acid attack was reported in Mandurriao District, Iloilo City.
The victim was reported to be a 33-year-old woman who works as a restaurant cashier.
According to an investigation of the Iloilo City Police Station 10, alias “May” was on her way home from work when a person reportedly splashed acid at her.
The incident happened while she was on a walkway at a business complex in Barangay San Rafael.
The culprit she described to be wearing a jacket and a crash helmet appeared suddenly behind her and perpetrated the attack.
“Napaso ang kanyang likod, kamay, and portion ng front ng kanyang body at portion ng kanyang face ang nasunog,” Captain Val Cambel, chief of the Iloilo City Police Station 10, said.
The victim, as of this writing, is safe but is still confined at the hospital.
It was also learned that she is from Leon town, Province of Iloilo but resides temporarily in the District of Molo.
Police have considered personal grudge as one of possible motives in the attack.
“Personal grudge from the other person ang naisip natin because naniniwala ang ating mga investigator on case na hinihintay talaga siya ng suspect na dumaan at sinundan at hinintay rin na doon sa dark portion ng kalsada at sinabuyan ng liquid substance,” Cambel pointed out.
The police already have persons of interest in the crime, one of which is the victim’s former boyfriend based on information they received.
A workmate of the victim, who refused an on-camera interview, said that alias "May" has never had any conflict with anyone at the restaurant.
GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas tried to seek a statement from the family of the victim, and is awaiting response.
