A P2.5-million fire in Talisay City, Cebu razed a total of 167 houses.

The fire broke out in a residential area in Sitio Mananga Dos, Barangay Tabunok on June 25, 2025.

Firefighters received the alarm at past 2 p.m.

Fire responders positioned fire trucks at Mananga Bridge overlooking a community of informal settlers, and by the roadside, after having a hard time penetrating narrow alleyways in a densely populated area.

It was learned from residents that welding sparks could have started the fire.

Aside from the 167 houses razed, another 22 houses were partially damaged.

The fire displaced a total of 224 families, or approximately 1,000 individuals.

Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony Gullas described the fire incident to be the biggest to have struck the city in the last six years.

The victims sought temporarily shelter at the Tabunok gym.

In line with the incident, the mayor launched a donation drive for more groups and individuals to participate in the outreach.

The city government has also coordinated with national agencies for assistance.

As of this writing, evacuation tents have been pitched, while distribution of sleeping kits, hygiene kits, kitchen utensils, among others has been set.
