The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and localized thunderstorms have triggered flooding and landslide in parts of Mindanao.

In Davao del Sur, at least 100 families were affected by a landslide that hit Sitio Bob, Barangay Tacub in Kiblawan town, according to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).

MDRRMO said the landslide stranded residents and motorists traveling from Barangay Bulolsalo to Tacub.

One house was also hit by the landslide.

MDRRMO Head, Michelle Jean Armilla, said landslides are a recurring problem in the area due to incomplete road concreting and the land’s tendency to soften quickly during heavy rains.

MDRRMO has also asked the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to address the problem.

Meanwhile, in Tantangan, South Cotabato, only one lane of the national highway was passable on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, after flooding hit the area amid heavy rains.

According to the Tantangan MDRRMO, floodwaters accumulated at the center island due to the road’s low elevation.

Floodwaters subsided after two hours.

“Sa SOCCSKSARGEN area is meron tayong localized thunder storm na pweding mag dulot ng mga pagbaha at landslide lalo na ang paglakas ng ulan,” PAGASA SOCCSKSARGEN Chief Meteorological Officer, Weather Specialist 1, Binrio Biñan, said.

In Surigao del Norte, heavy rains caused floodwaters to sweep through homes in Barangay Poblacion, San Jose, Dinagat Islands morning on Thursday, June 26.

Barangay Councilman Noli Tomarong Redula said the downpour lasted for about two hours, causing flooding in several areas of the town.

At least four houses and two stores were also damaged.

Classes in kindergarten and elementary levels were suspended due to the bad weather.

PAGASA said the bad weather conditions experienced in major parts of Mindanao were due to the effects of ITCZ.
