At least 19 houses were destroyed in another fire incident in Cebu, this time in Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City.
The fire broke out in Sitio Bamboo dawn on Friday, June 27, 2025.
Among those affected by the fire is a couple whose church wedding is set on Saturday, June 28, 2025.
The bride’s wedding gown and the groom’s wedding suit were among the items that got burned.
The Cebu City Fire Office received the alarm past 3 a.m. on June 27, 2025, according to spokesperson, SFO2 Wendell Villanueva.
The fire was raised to second alarm. A fire-out was declared past 4 a.m.
No casualty was reported, but one person sustained second-degree burns on the elbow and on other parts of the body.
The person is reported to be safe from harm.
Damage left behind by the fire cost approximately P540,000.
As of posting time, the cause of the fire has been investigated.
Reynante Atamosa, a fire victim, tried to scavenge items from his house that can still be of use. He showed to GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak what remains of the “traje de boda” (wedding gown) of his wife, Leah Atamosa, and his Barong Tagalog, a traditional men’s outfit for formal occasions.
Leah said that though the incident saddens her, she is glad that her family is safe.
The couple is already married through civil rites and has two children, but they sought a church wedding to seal further their commitment for each other with the blessing of the church they belong to.
The Atamosa couple said that no fire incident can raze to the ground their desire for a church wedding.
Hours earlier, a huge fire in adjacent Talisay City razed a total of 167 houses, displaced over 200 families or over 1,000 individuals.
