The Waste Management Office of General Santos City has urged residents to dispose only of residual wastes at the sanitary landfill amid concerns of increasing volume of plastic bottles filling up the site.
The local government said the waste cell at the sanitary landfill in Barangay Sinawal reaching capacity rapidly is now a challenge. This is due to the large amount of plastic bottles collected by garbage trucks from various barangays.
The Waste Management Office said around 130 to 140 tons of garbage are being collected per day, a significant portion of which consists of plastic bottles.
Residents are urged to throw away only residual wastes or garbage that can no longer be reused at the landfill.
If disposing of plastic bottles cannot be avoided, they are encouraging the public to segregate them at home and deliver them directly to the materials recovery facility (MRF) for recycling.
From the barangay maskin kame na magkuha pud.
